Every Soul Sent candle is hand-poured with care — and like any real wax candle, it deserves the same care when you burn it. Please read and follow these guidelines for every candle in your home.
Before you light
- Trim the wick to ⅛–¼ inch before every burn. A long or crooked wick causes uneven burning, excess smoke, and higher flames than intended.
- Remove all packaging, stickers, and any packing materials from the candle before lighting.
- Place your candle on a flat, heat-resistant, stable surface, away from anything that can catch fire — curtains, paper, furniture, and other decor.
- Keep candles at least 12 inches apart from each other and from anything flammable.
While it's burning
- Never leave a burning candle unattended — not even for a few minutes.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets at all times.
- Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, and fans, which can cause uneven burning or flare-ups.
- Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time. Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.
- Never touch or move a candle while the wax is liquid or the vessel is warm.
- If the flame becomes too large, flickers excessively, or produces heavy smoke, extinguish it immediately and let it cool before inspecting.
Sculpted candles
Because of their shape, our sculpted candles burn and drip differently than a standard jar candle. Always place sculpted candles on a heat-safe, wax-compatible tray or dish before lighting, and never leave them burning unattended. Many customers choose to enjoy their sculpted candles as decor rather than burning them — both are completely fine.
When to stop burning a candle
Stop burning and discard a candle when:
- Less than ½ inch of wax remains in the vessel
- The wick becomes too short to trim safely
- The vessel becomes cracked, chipped, or discolored from heat
Extinguishing your candle
Use a wick dipper or candle snuffer when possible, rather than blowing the flame out, to prevent hot wax splatter and reduce smoke. Never extinguish a candle with water.
Storage
Store unused candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can fade color and affect fragrance over time.
